Reports: Nearly 1000 layoffs hitting four Triangle firms - WRAL Tech Wire

RALEIGH – Despite the US economy adding jobs in October and with unemployment rates low across the Triangle, four firms are laying off workers with a total of nearly 1,000 jobs being affected.

Oakwood World Wide, nThrive, FDY and Marvell Semiconductor filed notices with the NC Department of Commerce over the last few weeks as indicated on its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Report.

The firm with the most layoffs is nThrive, a revenue cycle management company, which reported 839 permanent layoffs on Oct. 30.

The layoffs begin Dec. 31.

Oakwood World Wide, a corporate housing and serviced apartment solutions, is letting go of seven employees.

Those cuts begin Dec. 30. The firm is also letting four workers go in Charlotte.

In Durham County, FDY Inc is losing 141 employees on Oct. 29.

Layoffs begin on Dec. 31.

Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. listed 11 cuts on Nov. 5.

Layoffs take effect Jan. 6.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Report is a summary report lists North Carolina companies that filed a WARN notice with the North Carolina Department of Commerce in 2019.

To date, the state has received notices affecting 7,870 jobs.

In October, US employers added 128,000 jobs in October, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said in its monthly jobs report.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.6%, but it was for a good reason: 325,000 Americans started looking for work.
